The blog Wild Birds Unlimited has posted some interesting facts about some of the sparrows native to North America.  The most common sparrow visitors to my feeders are Song Sparrows, Dark-Eyed Juncos, and House Sparrows.  House Sparrows are a non-native species that was introduce to Utah in the late 1800′s to try an help protect cherry and other fruit tree blossoms from invading worms which ultimately didn’t happen.  There were a few failed attempts to introduce these birds and apparently the last time was successful as they are plentiful around here.  I get a kick out of Song Sparrows as they are pretty twitchy birds and are usually pretty bossy around the feeder keeping all the other birds in check.  Junco’s don’t tend to bother anyone and they prefer to feed on the seeds that fall to the ground.  I have seen a tree sparrow once or twice.  I know there are other sparrow species around, but the don’t come around my feeder if they are in the neighborhood.  Check out the other interesting tidbits in the link below.
